Directions to the Hatcher Gallery

The Hatcher Gallery is located in the far east corner of the Hatcher North lobby (the entrance off the “Diag”), in room 100.

Hatcher Library is not an easy building to navigate. You can ask library staff at any desk if you’d like help getting where you need to go. You can also contact us by phone at 734-764-0401 and by email, chat, and more at Ask a Librarian.

Get there from Hatcher North

Entering Hatcher Library off the “Diag” requires climbing a set of stairs or using a ramp. This ramp does not currently meet the guidelines set by the Americans with Disabilities Act for steepness and surface condition.

The entrance to the gallery is located in the southeast corner of the north lobby. A ramp leads into the room. This ramp is very steep and may not be usable for some people with mobility impairments.

For a route without any incline:

Please note that this route includes narrow passageways through the stacks and sets of doors that do not open automatically. Staff will assist any patron along the route at your request.
  1. Take any elevator in the north lobby to floor 2.
  2. At floor 2, exit the elevator and head toward the large central area. The Ask a Librarian desk is located here.
  3. On your left — beyond the Ask a Librarian desk but before a bank of computers — is a door labeled “North Stacks.” It is the second door on the left. Enter and follow the yellow tape on the floor, which leads to a second elevator. Please ask the library staff at the desk if you need help navigating.
  4. Take this second elevator down to floor 1.
  5. Exit the elevator at floor 1. There will be a set of doors on your left, across from the elevator. These doors lead into the book stacks. Follow the yellow tape past a set of stairs and to the first door on your right. Use this door to enter the Hatcher Gallery.

Get there from accessible entrance at Hatcher South

For a path without any incline, enter the library from the south lobby, which is located off South University Avenue behind the Clements Library. This entrance is wheelchair accessible, has an automatic door, and no incline.

To reach the Hatcher Gallery from the south lobby:

Please note that this route includes narrow passageways through the stacks and sets of doors that do not open automatically. Staff will assist any patron along the route at your request.
  1. Take any elevator in the south lobby to floor 2.
  2. At floor 2, exit the elevator and turn right. You will enter a carpeted floor that is part of Hatcher North. There will be banks of computers in rows on both sides, and an Ask a Librarian desk further along on your right.
  3. Before the Ask a Librarian desk is a door labeled “North Stacks.” It is the first door on the right beyond the computers. Yellow tape on the floor leads to a second elevator in the back. Please ask library staff if you need help navigating.
