What we do
The Research and Learning division advances discovery, research, learning, and teaching through collaborative services that support the creation and use of knowledge. Teams within the division partner with faculty, researchers, clinicians, staff and students as well as campus departments, programs, and centers to advance the University of Michigan’s mission of research, scholarship, clinical care, creative practice and learning.
Our aim is to inspire curiosity, advance inquiry, promote a culture of continuous growth, ensure equitable access, and foster inclusive participation. We do this by offering programs, services, and resources that empower learners and researchers to thrive. We build and steward collections, making them discoverable and accessible. We provide research and technology support; instruction and consultation; and access to spaces, programs, collections, and creative and assistive technologies.
Our work spans the full research and learning lifecycle, enabling researchers, clinicians, learners, and instructors to advance their efforts through every stage of inquiry, discovery, and application.
We partner with our users to:
- Collaborate on instructional activities, from curriculum design and learning outcomes to course-integrated sessions
- Advance research, literature reviews, evidence synthesis, and creative practice projects through consultation, expert searching, methodological guidance, and connections to relevant library expertise
- Build collections that are responsive to evolving campus research and curricular needs
- Explore library resources, identify relevant materials, and evaluate them critically
- Engage and apply traditional and emerging research tools and methods
- Offer programs, experiential learning, and other engagement opportunities
- Promote and share research through publishing, presenting, and enhancing public impact
We are committed to providing access to resources and services in alignment with our campus and library values.
