Advocacy for Employees

Our collections and services are made valuable by the talent and dedication of the people who work here. 

By participating in Librarians’ Forum and Staff Forum, library colleagues are given formal means to network with one another and advise leaders on issues concerning library administration.

Librarians’ Forum

Librarians’ Forum provides a setting to discuss professional issues and promote librarians’ effective participation in overarching U-M Library affairs. The group advises the dean of libraries on matters that affect the academic or professional interests of librarians, including the promotion process.

Membership consists of those with library faculty positions, and is represented by a board of eight elected officers.

Meetings are held monthly from September to June, and all library employees are welcome to attend.

Staff Forum

Staff Forum serves as the collective voice of non-librarian staff. The group helps create a positive and productive work environment to benefit members and the library by promoting ways, means, and opportunities for staff to advance in their careers, and working to ensure that staff members’ best ideas are implemented and their professional needs are met.
