Open Access Publishing Support

You may want to publish open access or be required to in order to meet funding requirements. Publishing open access often comes with fees called article publishing charges (APCs) to cover production costs. We negotiate with certain publishers to subsidize open access publishing options for U-M authors.

A growing number of our contracts with publishers that provide access to articles and other materials include discounts on APCs for U-M-affiliated authors. Each publisher has specific requirements in order to obtain the negotiated discount.

Agreements range from covering the full cost of publishing to a percentage discount. The terms may also differ between a publisher's hybrid and pure open titles.
