Library Data Grant Program

Do you need access to a particular set of data to conduct your research?

Apply for a data grant, and you’ll get library-licensed access to the information you need.

The requested data must already be commercially available.

Eligibility

  • University of Michigan-affiliated researchers are eligible, including faculty, staff, and students of all levels
  • Only data that can be licensed campus-wide will be considered

We will not consider restricted data. License agreements must conform with the library’s purchasing policies.

What it covers

Our grants can be used to access data through a one-time purchase.

In the case of a subscription model, it’ll cover the cost of a subscription for one year.

We will:

  • Negotiate the purchase
  • Make the payment to the vendor

If you already have funding, we’ll conduct negotiations with the data provider, handle the license agreements, and make the data accessible.

How to apply

Please complete our online application. It requires a description of your research project and information about the data.

We'll start reviewing applications on December 13, 2024.

Selections are based on projects, data cost, and availability of funds.

You’ll be notified of our decision by February 17, 2025.
