We digitize books, photos, newspapers, maps and other flat materials, ephemera and other rare objects, and time-based media from library collections. Our primary work is to create digital versions for Google Books, HathiTrust, Digital Collections, Deep Blue, MiVideo, and other online repositories, but we offer other consultation services as well.

You can read about some of our work on the Library Tech Talk blog or find out more about the Digital Content and Collections department.

Consultation services

Consultations are open to campus and members of the community. This includes advice on digitization equipment, workflows, and standards, as well as cost estimates for a project and how to set up a digitization lab.

As experts in digital conversion, we can work with faculty, staff, and researchers to:

  • Collaborate with library specialists to support providing materials for research
  • Create digital facsimiles for exhibitions and catalogs
  • Provide advice about physical item assessment and vendor selection

More ways to connect with us

In addition to consultations, we engage with the public, campus, and research community through:

  • Presentations to support classroom teaching
  • Tours for U-M School of Information classes, donors, and those interested in learning more about how materials are digitized
  • Public talks and advice clinics on digitizing personal materials
