Hatcher South Carrels
Semi-enclosed spaces for one with a desk and window. Floors 3-5 are a Focus Zone.

New for Fall 2022 semester! We are testing out zoned spaces to help you know what to expect from a study atmosphere. This floor is a Focus Zone and you can expect to do individual work with a quiet noise level.
Along the perimeter of the book stacks on floors 3, 4, and 5 in the Hatcher South building are individual study nooks known as carrels.
With a small desk, chair and window, these spaces are ideal for reading, writing, or any focused work.
Reserving carrels
All 92 carrels on floor 3 of Hatcher South can be reserved for up to 4 hours per day. Reservations are not required for carrels on floors 4 and 5.
A select few carrels are available for weekly reservations and we also offer semester-long carrels for U-M graduate students and faculty.
