New open access options for U-M authors

March 8, 2023

An agreement between the publisher Wiley and the Big Ten Academic Alliance is offering new subsidized open access (OA) publishing options for U-M authors.

In an expansion of last year's agreement, which covered article processing charges for Wiley's hybrid journals, the new three-year Read and Publish agreement offers no-cost publishing in both hybrid and gold OA journals, including those from Hindawi, an OA publisher for the scientific community recently acquired by Wiley.

Authors retain rights to their work under a Creative Commons license, and published articles are immediately open and available to anyone. See the Wiley website for more details about the BTAA agreement, including step-by-step guides and lists of eligible hybrid and fully open access journals.

To qualify under the agreement, articles must:

  • have a corresponding author affiliated with a participating institution.
  • be primary research or review articles (which includes original articles, case studies, reviews and short communications).
  • be accepted (for Wiley hybrid journals) or submitted (for Wiley gold and Hindawi journals) during the term of the agreement (January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2025).
