Hartline appointed AUL for Access and Fulfillment

Megan Hartline has been appointed associate university librarian for Access and Fulfillment at the University of Michigan Library. She comes to Michigan from the Denver Public Library, where she serves as the central operations manager, leading three public service departments at a library system that comprises 27 locations, annually circulates nearly 8 million physical and digital items, and serves millions of patrons each year.

“We were impressed with Megan’s in-depth understanding of public facing library services, her dedication to developing quality experiences for patrons, and her focus on creating an inclusive and positive environment for those working in public service roles,” said Lisa Carter, dean of libraries.

Carter added that a prominent theme in the feedback from the library community was appreciation for Hartline’s vision for long-term growth alongside her practical and concrete understanding of the day-to-day implementation of services.

Hartline will lead the library’s newly created Access and Fulfillment division, which brings together physical collections management, fulfillment services, and circulation and general information services.

“The grouping of access and fulfillment represents a coordination of services that speak to my personal beliefs in delivering high quality services during some of the briefest, but most frequent, points of contact with the campus community. I am also a nerd for the nuts and bolts of circulation, collection management, and resource sharing,” said Hartline.

Before joining the Denver Public Library, Hartline led public services, including circulation, course reserves, stacks management, and resource sharing, at the University of Colorado Auraria Library.

The appointment marks Hartline's return to the University of Michigan — she obtained her master's degree in Information Science at the U-M School of Information, and worked for five years on physical collections and access at the U-M Library.
