Faculty and Staff
All regular and temporary U-M faculty and staff are eligible to borrow our materials.
Michigan Medicine faculty and staff
Michigan Medicine Ann Arbor Medical Campus employees have an active appointment with the University of Michigan and are eligible for borrowing privileges, as well as library services provided to faculty and staff. This does not include employees from other hospital systems that operate under Michigan Medicine.
Retired faculty and staff
Retired faculty and staff from the U-M Ann Arbor campus are eligible for borrowing privileges, including interlibrary loan. This does not include access to online resources.
Bring your Mcard to the Hatcher North Information Services desk as proof of your prior faculty or staff status. If you no longer have your Mcard, please bring a state-issued photo ID with your current address.
Borrowing privileges must be renewed yearly.
Emeriti faculty
Emeriti faculty get uninterrupted library privileges, including access to online resources. Borrowing privileges are automatically renewed each year.
Appointing a proxy to borrow on your behalf
U-M faculty members with permanent teaching appointments can request that people who work with them obtain proxy privileges to borrow in their name.
The sponsoring faculty member assumes full responsibility for all materials borrowed, including:
- Notices and correspondence received
- Return or renewal of books by the due date
- Immediate return of books that are recalled
- Payment for any lost materials
Appoint someone to borrow materials on your behalf
Proxy privileges are issued for no more than 1 year at a time and must be renewed yearly. Please notify us in writing if a proxy appointment needs to be revoked or canceled before the expiration date.
