Who Can Borrow

We offer a variety of borrowing options for members of the U-M community and guests, including reciprocal agreements with a number of academic institutions and organizations.

To borrow from our library locations, you must have a library card. In most cases this will be your Mcard

Eligible groups

  • Currently registered students from all three U-M campuses (Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint).
  • Faculty and staff, including retired faculty and staff from the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses. Active faculty can also assign people as proxies, and current faculty and staff can request borrowing privileges for a spouse or other qualified adult.
  • Visiting scholars, if a sponsoring department has requested they receive borrowing privileges.
  • Guests with specific academic affiliations. All other guests can purchase borrowing privileges for an annual fee, including alumni.
