What we do

Made up of a team of subject librarians and staff with expertise in the humanities and visual and performing arts, we support and enhance creative practice, research, teaching, and learning for arts and humanities disciplines across campus. We build print and electronic collections; provide reference and research support through consultations and instruction; collaborate with researchers, artists, and performers; and liaise with numerous departments and other units on campus. Our subject librarians have expertise in digital scholarship and provide support for the full research life cycle.

We also curate collections, including the Artists’ Books, Materials Collection, Screen Arts Mavericks and Makers, and Music special collections. We acquire, make accessible, and preserve an extensive collection of image resources, and we maintain and provide programming for the library’s Book Arts Studio

Our major campus partners include the College of Literature, Science and the Arts; Stamps School of Art and Design; School of Music, Theatre and Dance; and Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
