Ilyasah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X and herself an award-winning author, educator, and producer, shares powerful stories of what she learned from her iconic activist parents and how you too can make the diverse world more equitable and inclusive for all. These are stories about courage, compassion, purpose and leadership. It’s about how you can turn a movement into a reality for both today and generations to come. Join the event in person or via Zoom.

Shabazz has authored five historical novels, served as project advisor for the PBS award-winning documentary, "Prince Among Slaves," and is currently producing a television series based on her latest publication, "The Awakening of Malcolm X." She is Chairperson of the Malcolm X & Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center Board of Trustees. She holds a Master of Science in Education & Human Resource Development from Fordham University, a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY @ New Paltz, and is an adjunct professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In recognition of her outstanding achievements in public service, education, and the arts, Worcester State University conferred Shabazz with a degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.

This event is sponsored by the U-M Library, Rackham School of Graduate Studies, Michigan Housing, Bentley Historical Library, and School of Information as part of the annual U-M Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium.
