Provide Access Through Canvas
Canvas is a great way to make materials available to your class. You can provide links to library-licensed content or build out a customized Library Tools page with resources.
Create links
To ensure compliance with copyright law and licensing agreements, please link to library-licensed content on your Canvas site, instead of uploading PDFs downloaded from electronic resources.
When selecting and using library content:
- Keep in mind that publisher platforms (such as Springer) generally offer more accessible content than aggregators like EBSCO or JSTOR
- Make sure your links are persistent and proxied, so they work seamlessly for your students.
We can also modify library materials to make them accessible for students, faculty, and staff with an accommodation need. In addition, you can use the Panorama in Canvas to identify accessibility issues and remediate course materials.
Turn on Library Tools
If you place materials on reserve at one of our libraries, turn on “Library Tools” in your Canvas course so students can see the items listed there.
- In Canvas, go to Settings > Navigation.
- Drag and drop Library Tools from the hidden options into your active course navigation.
- Save your changes.
Once it’s been added to your course navigation, go to the Library Tools page and select the Edit tab.
Select the Course Reserves button and save.
See the directions provided on the edit screen for additional guidance and other elements you can add.
