Using a Browser Extension
Library Access offers quick and easy access to licensed library resources by automatically detecting when you come across a resource, ebook, or article online that the library has a subscription for.
The browser extension is freely available for Chrome, Edge, Explorer, Firefox, Opera, and Safari on desktops and laptops.
If you are using an unsupported browser or a mobile device, try the Proxy Server Bookmarklet instead.
Download and install Library Access
- Visit the Lean Library website to download and install the Library Access extension.
- Choose the University of Michigan from the list of institutions and select “save.”
Using the extension
If you are on a campus network, Library Access should work automatically once installed. The extension icon in your browser toolbar will turn green if the library provides access.
If you’re remote or not on a campus network, you may be prompted to log in with U-M credentials.
When content is not detected as available through the library, the extension will automatically check for open access versions or provide a link to interlibrary loan so you can request it.
