Physics

We maintain collections to support the work of researchers in all physics disciplines, with an emphasis on active areas of research. Though we pay special attention to the needs of researchers in the departments of Physics and Astronomy, we aim to support all University of Michigan scientists with physics needs.

Our English-language materials include research in general theoretical physics, condensed matter physics, and high energy physics. In addition, we maintain an increasingly diverse range of related resources spanning such topics as astrophysics and cosmology, biological physics, and complex systems science. Scientific works pertaining to weather, climate science, and climate change are collected at more selective levels, as are non-English materials.

Although the majority of recent physics materials are now provided electronically, we also curate a rich collection of print materials spanning the long history of the discipline.

Some historical, non-circulating physics material can be found in the Special Collections Research Center.
