HS-STEM · ResearchAbout me
I work with a variety of academic and clinical departments in the health sciences, partnering with researchers on systematic reviews and other types of evidence syntheses and teaching students, faculty, and researchers how to work with library resources and programs. I am passionate about teaching, both online and in person; active learning techniques are included in most classes that I teach. I'm interested in serious games, and, with library colleagues, created a game to teach students more advanced searching techniques in PubMed and Embase. I led a project to create Canvas modules that can be used for the classes that we teach often, so that any of our instructors can easily teach asynchronously or in a flipped learning environment. I am currently leading a broad revision of the Plain Language Medical Dictionary, which translates technical medical terms into plain English.
I have an MPH focusing on health policy and an MA in the History of Art (Japanese Painting), both from the University of Michigan. My interests include the history of medicine; biomedical ethics; health policy, particularly regarding health insurance and organ transplantation; and things Japanese.
